Background Project Overview
Rarely does the Pope visit the United States. Pope Benedict XVI visited the United States in 2008 and before that Pope John Paul II visited in 1979. Recently, Pope Francis visited the United States and America Media (one of the largest catholic media companies) asked us to design and develop a microsite for the event.
The website needed to engaging the audience in an immersive way, while documenting his schedule and providing easy access to coverage as it happened.
The Design Our Solution
We designed the site to feature rich, vibrant imagery for key stories and live coverage. This drawing the user in and grabbing their attention with the biggest story at the moment.
To clearly indicate the Pope’s schedule, we designed a timeline indicating each destination including the date, location and activity. As reporters at America Media covered each event, stories were populated into the timeline allowing users to find more information about what transpired at each stop.
Social media actions were woven throughout to maximize the reach of published content. The website was extremely successful and was referenced on broadcast news multiple times during the visit.
